What an unusual name. Every time I hear it though, I think of Jimmy Clitheroe on the tv when I was a (very young) kid. Didn't he always used to be dressed as a schoolkid, a bit like Jimmy Krankie? You'll remember Doc.... :-)

You can still hear him on BBC Radio 7 http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00clb4p (the latest broadcast is on iPlayer linked from that page)
''The band have never actually disclosed exactly where the name 'Biffy Clyro' originated. They have a series of stories as to how the name came about. Whilst being interviewed on Soccer AM the band stated that they named themselves after a footballer called Biffy Clyro who played for Scottish side Ayr United also admitting that they make up stories about how they are named because they are bored of being asked the same question.

Another story is that one of the members owned a Cliff Richard pen, i.e 'Cliffy Biro', which was accidentally spoonerised on a drunken night out.

The name Biffy Clyro has also been claimed in another interview to come from an acronym for "Big Imagination For Feeling Young 'Cos Life Yearns Real Optimism".''

i feel an fb staus change coming up.....
Well, this IS a blast from the past.
Jimmy was my Uncle by Marriage's cousin(still with me?)
Unlike Jimmy Krankie (Janette Tough),he WAS a male, and he never grew past 4ft 3 ins.
See Wikipedia here:~

I met Jimmy quite a few times (he was born in 1921 and I in 1923,so we were close in age).
He was a quiet withdrawn guy off of the radio, but very frienfly within the family..He never married,he told me it was because all the women that fancied him wanted "a child to Mother",and of course he didn't!
After he died it was rumoured in the familt that he mau have been (repressed gay)but we will probably never know.
