Got a new photo licence - do I have to carry the paper bit round with me as well, or can I leave it at home? What do you do?

You can get a natty folder to put both bits in if you want to carry the lot, other people just carry the pink card and keep the paper bit at home in case they have to produce it.
Leave it at home; but take it abroad if you want to hire a car, just in case.
You do not have to carry it with you.
However you would have to produce it at a police station,if asked to do so by a police officer.
The paper document will carry notification of any points or disqualifications, you may be unlucky enough to get.
You are supposed to keep them together...not separate them...I never carry them with me..The photo-card is part of the licence and vice-versa..If you have to show them at any time you will get plenty of time to do so,,,Leave them at home..I have been driving for 50 years and have never carried my licence with me, and as far as I can remember I have never needed to..It is entirely up to you....

Confusing! I am hiring a car when I go to Malta in April so good point about taking both bits. I have always carried my old licence in my wallet but think I will leave the paper bit at home in future. Not sure about the plastic card though, useful for buying booze if they think I am under 18 (big grin).
