Capo for guitar

I'm a total novice and want to buy a capo for my acoustic guitar. Are they generic? (eg a capo can be used on both electric and acoustic)

Yes they are, assuming you mean steel strung acoustic and not classical (they have flatter necks). I recommend the Dunlop one.

Thanks for the answer. Yes its a standard acoustic. Will look at the link, I've heard that Jim Dunlop stuff is pretty top notch.
What I like about it is that it is very 'quick release' and immediate. Very good for sessions/get togethers where rapid changes of key are required (elastic/screw-up capos are more fiddly and slow).
If you can't find a Dunlop one I highly recommend Shubb capos. They are very high quality and easy to use.
