I visited a friend as she was about to cook her dinner. She had a vegetable that looked like a swede in shape, but was whitish in colour. When she cut a slice off it the colour inside was orange. There were white flat seeds in the middle like melon seeds. She said it was a sweet potato, but I didn't think they had seeds inside. I wonder if anyone has an idea what this vegetable could be. I've looked at gourd photos and it didn't really look like one of those

S'not sweet potato, they look like potatoes (oddly enough!) but are a browny coloured on the outside but orange ish, inside.

I believe it's a type of squash, most likely a winter squash.
That's not a sweet potato, it sounds like a butternut squash to me, they have orange flesh and flat white seeds. They taste very nice!
What does squash taste like - what other food is near to the taste of it ?
We used to have roast marrow a lot, then tried squash....It is SO much nicer than marrow! Also you can do anything with squash that you can do with a potato...

Thanks for your answers. This vegetable looked more round like a swede and not long like a butternut squash, but the inside looked just like a squash. I did retrieve some seeds,so I guess I shall have to plant them to see what comes up
