Did anybody see his theatrics on Andrew Marr yesterday?

I bet if he could've squeezed a tear from his dried-up ducts he would have.

Just about the worst case of feigning emotion I've ever seen - having read his book 'Why I Am So Excellent' it is quite clear Alastair Campbell's thought are only ever about Alastair Campbell.

so how exactly do you tell feigned emotion from real emotion on TV?

Ditto. Personally I thought that it was genuine.
For what is is worth, I actually believe he and TB are genuine in their belief that it was the right thing to do (invade Iraq).
The issue for me is that the evidence on which they made that assertment is now more available for all of us to see - and the JUDGEMENT (that was based on the evidence) looks poor. Since politicians are paid (handsomely) to make judgements based on evidence and not intuition, that alone rules TB out from further high public office.

You can tell feigned emotion from real emotion quite simply with Campbell - if the emotions are of humility, regret, compassion or the like, then they are fake.

My question was a serious one. If you don't know someone personally (as opposed to the imaginary intimacy of TV), I don't think it's possible to tell whether the emotions they seem to display are real or not.

TB may have thought it was right, but Campbell just puts everything into succeeding at his task whether it is right or wrong.

Funny how the emotion appeared after he realised he might well have said the wrong thing and was trying to wriggle of it. It gave him the chance he needed to change the subject. Pure theatrics.

Alastair Campbell was genuinely upset - for Alastair Campbell, not for anything or anyone else.

Note the first words he said when he eventually answered ' I've been through such a lot' !

Truly a thoroughly obnoxious person
