When my dad sold his van, the guy went to hertfordshire instead of herefordshire, (which is where i live), was very funny.

Hertfordshire(shortened to Herts) is North of London.
Herefordshire(no shortening that I know of) Is on the Welsh borders.

I have lived in Hereford since 1980 (apart from when I've been living in Spain) and we often shorten it to Hfds.

If you look at your driving licence and car registration certificate you will see that they do not consider the county as part of the postal address.

I have known it to be shortened to Hereford or the 'Ford other than that i don't know of any.
