I don't know Dr F - it's one I got in Holland. A silver one with a fancy intricate bracelet - I wouldn't have thought it cost more than £120 (it was a pressie).
I will try Timsons - I'm going there today to get my biker boots reheeled and I fancy the young guy in there, so good excuse for a chat!!
They say it's so expensive cos they have to send it off because the back is not easily removed and can't be done there & then in a shop.

it depends how much you value the watch, sal. I've been quoted £45 to send one of mine away, but I took a risk with a local jeweller who did it for a fiver. then the jewellers closed so I've taken it to a local shoe repairer who also does watch batteries, again, about a fiver.
but I wouldn't go swimming with it on now, just in case the seal has been ruined.

Having worked in a jewellers I can assure you that no battery costs more that £2.00. Even batteries for expensive watches.
In that particular jewellers they would charge according to the type of watch - so a swatch would cost a fiver and a tag would be fifteen!!
If they have to be sent off to the manufacturer for sealing (using Tag again as an example) that would be expensive - at least forty quid.
Nowadays, if I can get the back off the watch, I buy the battery off ebay.
