making a will??

hi there my question is me and my man are not married we have a son together but (touch wood) if something was to happen to him would i be entitled to anything?would he have to make a will just now to include me in it because were not married??

Live-in partners are not recognised by inheritance law. This means that, even if you have lived together for many years, you will be left with absolutely nothing if your man has not made a will.

It�s always a good idea to draw up a will because (1) it avoids intestacy rules coming into play; (2) it�s the only way unmarried partners can inherit from each other; (3) it makes clear the wishes of the parent(s) regarding the care of children; (4) it can say how a funeral is to be arranged and (5) it simplifies the administrative work that follows a death and so reduces the time taken to settle the estate and the cost involved (even more so if you don�t appoint a solicitor or bank manager as executor!)The beneficiary can also be named as executor and then if he or she needs a solicitor, he or she can employ one, rather than have the awkward position of a solicitor acting for the deceased and being unable to take instructions from the living!

If items are in joint names they will pass to you automatically even if you are not married but if items are in sole names you will not be entitled to anything unless you make a Will. I was in he same position and I contacted this company www.iwc-ltd.co.uk 0845 0773892. They will even run through a consultation over the phone explaining everything and if you wantto go ahead they will come to see you at home. It was not expensive and they were brilliant..
