Filling Loop, No Handles!
19 Answers
My boiler has dropped in pressure over the winter months, and now im looking at topping it up in pressure. at the moment its sat at 0.5 bars, and i need it to be around 1.25. The filling loop is attatched but theres no handles on it. Theres 2 handles on both pipes the filling loop connects, the handles are right under the boiler, just reachable, I've turned both on and nothing.... am i missing something? does anyone know about filling loops without handles? The loop connects on two prodruding pieces of pipe, that come out a few inches, and have white rubber caps on the end, but turning these just turns the whole loop including the nut that connects it to the pipe. any suggestions would be useful, thanks in advance.

Ended up phoning landlord, turns out those little "nubs" on the end are turnable, which turns the gold valve and allows it through. sorted!

Besides the taps, you might have an isolating valve (like this) inline with the filling loop.

If someone has stuck one of these inline, they will normally be fairly close to the handles/taps.

Pictures of the Valves. Like i said the actual pipes leading into the boiler have the handles to open/close.therefore i know i just have to work out how to get water across the filling loop. any ideas are welcome. ideally the correct ones :P

it looks to me the first and the third tap from the left are the ones you turn have you tried them, turn them half way upwards together and it should start rising up if it doesnt dont worry just turn them back again, it wont harm the boiler so have them positioned like the yello one for a few seconds and see if it raises up....keep me informed have you just had this boiler put in, have you ever done this before, we think boilers are complicated things by lookin at the wireing etc, but they are not that complicated, i played about with mine to find how to do it...obviously i only touched valves and taps i thought safe
well I just disconnected the filling loop, so established it wasnt the nuts attaching it to the pipe with any sort of mechanism to allow water through. Leaving me with two options, its either the gold nut (refer to picture P1010016 and its the gold one directly touching the silver piece, the thick gold one on the end does nothing.) or its the giant silver bolt, opposite side to the aforementioned gold ones. I cant find the boiler manual online, as far as i know its an Ikon 23t....
Forgot to mention the brass nuts WERE covered by a rubber handle, similar to that of a radiator tap. This had grooves in it which "hold" the gold bolt i was describing, however its SO TIGHT i can't turn either of them. Im 90% sure those bolts must be turned to allow the loop water through. Any ideas on loostening them? tried my 17st brute force to no avail, maybe applying hot water to expand em a little?
