Trying to find
I'm trying to find details of the death of my Grandmother. Her name was Annie Watson. She was born in 1894 in Castleford it was then the west riding of Yorkshire. Her maiden name was Essler. She married Sidney ( sometimes spelt Sydney ) around June 1918. I cannot find her date of death or who her parents were. Rumour had it that she fell or jumped in the river. I don't know when but in wartime I think. Can you help

I'm bogged down in baptisms in Lincolnshire in the early 1700s and it is winding me up cos the IGI is such a vast resource but they really botched up some of the transcribing when it was put onto the database in the 1990s. i have used the actual filmed registers to get the info 20 years ago, but now trying to recheck it is like the ones I found in the actual pages never existed!
Good luck cas......if you want to order certificates register here.....as long as you have the details they will cost you £7.00 each....

cas wherever you subscribe you have to pay for certificates as these are from the governments registrar's office.
I belong to 4 sites which is a bit OTT but I do family trees for people (not for money) but I do charge them for any certificates they want but it's just a hobby for me. Dot is an expert, I am not. Another very good ABer on genealogy is Barmaid.
I belong to Genes Reunited, which is a great tree builder, plus it has a good community board and chatroom...this only costs about £9.00 every 6 months for a basic membership
I also subscribe to ancestry which is my favourite as they have a lot of other peoples' family trees which tie in with mine, plus a very good filter search.
I subscribe to genealogist but am thinking of not renewing my subscription there but it is good for trawling through actual records as opposed to accepting records others have interpreted.
I also subscribe to findmypast as they are brilliant for overseas and military records and also have the 1911 census.
If I were serious at starting to research my family tree I would subscribe to Genes Reunited for actual tree building and ancestry for the research.

Coroners reports are only kept for 30 years but the newspaper reports appear in local papers and that would be where you would need to search. Copies of local papers are held in local reference libraries and any inquest report would be indexed by surname. You could check Pontefract reference library for the newspapers that were being published in the 1940s.
Hi. Just noticed this post regarding Annie Essler who is one of my grandmothers sisters. My grandmother is Alice Essler. Her father Hermann Essler died on July 14th 1912, significantly he took his own life by hanging himself. At the time of his death he was estranged from his wife and family. This was seen as something that brought shame on the family as they were strong Roman Catholics, it seems that he was completeley disowned which I find rather sad. The informant on his death certificate was the coroner. A coroners inquest was held on 15th July 1912. Some of the details in this post have come from my mother who would have been Hermann's grand daughter. If you need to get in touch my temporary email (I will give my personal email after first contact using email below) [email protected]
