i am trying to make'linguine with seared chilli scallops'it says on the recipe'prepare the scallops by removing any hard sinew,is that the orange bit?
No the orange bit is the coral. Perfectly edible and I really like it. Up to you if you leave it on or take it off.
I like the orange bit as well - tasty.
Sounds yummy. I have just read some blurb that says it is personal preference and you can leave them or take them off.
but it is a strong taste, if its your first time with them might not be a bad idea to seperate them!

There is some info on here as to what to discard !
The orange bit is roe and most people really like it, so optional if you want to leave it on.
slinky......my usual reposte is "take it off" but in the case of Scallops, the answer is keep the orange bit on.
LOL Squad ! Discard all clothing and keep everything on the Scallop :-)
The orange bit is the roe , don't throw it away it's the best bit ...scallops don't need a lot of cooking , pan fry either side for 2-3 mins , I usually have them with a risotto .
enjoy .....
I fry them with onions, mushrooms and chilli flakes in single or double cream. Yummm.... sometimes add king prawns. Spoon over some horseradish mash and bung on some green things such as broccoli or petit pois. Voila.
