I run Windows 98SE.To try and speed up machine I (foolishly) removed files from the Registry using Regcleaner 4.3.Now I get no response from any Icon on the Control Panel or from many other Icons including the Games folder,Mozilla- Firefox, which I am using as well as Internet Explorer,Windows Explorer etc. Ican get to my files through 'My Computer'. How can I reinstall the Registry.Help would be greatly appreciated by a 'computer illiterate' old bloke!

Thanks Macca ACT

There should be a facility to restore a previous registry under WIndows 98 - I think that when you start the computer, go into command prompt and type in SCANREG (or possibly SCANREGW) (sorry but this is from memory) and there will be 5 previous registry settings, go back to one that was working prior to the problem.
Hopefully this "should" do the trick - good luck

system tools

system restore

set the day before you did your registry cleanup

good luck,  it worked for me.

Double-blade, dont think theres a system restore facility on Windows 98 - isnt that just on XP.?

Yes, you're right alunrw the system restore is on XP and not on 98SE - as these were my last and present models.

PS. Written down your advice in case I need it soon!
