abnormal cervical cells

i recently had to go under general anesthetic to have a lletz to remove abnormal cervical cells.  i have just had the results of the biopsy back and it tells me that the abnormality was CIN III but there was no evidence of cancer.  although i am relieved that there is no cancer i am a little worried as everything i have read about CIN III says that this is high grade.  does anybody know anything about this and what excactly it means.  am i at a higher risk of getting cancer in the future and what are the chances of the abnormal cells coming back, or not all being removed the first time?  i posted a question on here when i first found out about the abnormal cells and everyone was brilliant, really reassured me.

Although I work in Theatre my knowledge of this particular problem is limited.  However my wife works in the Gynaecology Clinic of our local hospital taking smears etc and I will seek her advice and post further later this evening when she gets home, if that is OK with you.

My wife phoned me at lunchtime so I asked her your question.  She says that now you have been treated you should have no greater nor less chance of developing cancer than any other female, however you will be regularly monitored by your local clinic and will continue to undergo regular smears.  Basically, rest assured that you will be looked after.

Sorry don't know anything about it, but Philtaz's answer seems positive.  I've never had a clear smear test in my life and I know it can be worrying, but again, as long as you make sure you keep up with regular check ups, you should be absolutely fine x

just to add to whats been said,I had the same procedure as you after my smear showed Cin II and I ve just had results back from my smear sixmonths after the lletz and they were clear so you have nothing to worry about, I am going for another smear soon as they have asked for two sets of results before I go back again, Im actually reassured beacuse I will be checked more regularly in the future.I hope this helps.

I think I remember answering your previous question. I too had cin 111 which is a high rate of pre cancerous cells(if left untreated they could turn cancerous), I had a cone biopsy and my womb scraped(yuk!) Is that a lletz?I was also told that I had no evidence of cancer and now I have to go for yearly smears which is fine by me! I had my op in february 2003 and so far every smear has been normal. I was diagnosed with CIN III and had to have a cone biopsy like jeepster.  That was in 1993 and I have had no problems since.  I had to have annual smears for a while which was reassuring but I'm now back to 3-yearly.  I know how worrying this is for you but take comfort from the fact that it has been detected and treated.  Good luck.

Like some of the other ladies on here, I had lazer treatment and a biopsy in Oct 2003 for CN111 cells. Yes it means extra smears but so far they have all been clear and you have the peace of mind that you're being monitored on a regular basis.

Also there is no greater risk of getting cervical cancer than there was prior to the cells being found.

Hi lucyshandbag, I was diagnosed wth C III back in 1990 after having a smear test, I truely unstand what you are going through, myself, I was terrified. I went to the hospital and a biopsy was taken then I had to go back for my treatment. I had lazer,  I had only just finished my period and my womb was still swollen, so every time they lazered I bled so they cauterised the area which they had lazered, this happened 5 times and I must say I was in alot of pain even though I had been given a local anethetic, I must have alow pain thresh-hold! I was monitered by the hospital for 2yrs and had to have a smear done once a year for 5 years I go now every 3 years. I have been clear now for 15 years ( touch wood! ) and as what has been said on your posts, you are at no greater risk of getting cervical cancer, than you were before your diagnosise, just be thankful like the rest of us that it has been caught in time and you can go on to lead a healthy normal life.
