My boyfriend is planning to leave the Army. He's worked as an engineer for 8 years doing CAD stuff. He is also a Physical Trainer in the the Army. Can anyone recommend a new career direction? He says he couldn't bare to be stuck at a PC all day and wants to keep active. However he's not willing to lose much in the way of pay (currently on £29K). He's scared to leave at the mo and its putting a terrible strain on our relationship! Any help appreciated.

Has he considered teaching PE and IT either to adults or in a school (private or state). Teaching adults does not pay as well as teaching kids but can be less challenging. The thing about the pay is, it is on the high side for him while in the army as a compensation for being shot at - most jobs outside the army don't have this as an expectation so the pay is lower. He might need to get his head around a temporary lower pay packet in order to have a wider range of options.
What about the police? My brother is TA and police and is currently on secondment from the cops to be in Afghanistan. I'm not sure about finances but I know that being in the TA tops up is police pay.
