Is it possible to find a job where your not working for somebody or with somebody that isnt a total ego maniac who lets the power of managment go to there head. Or someone who has wasted their life and abuses there power to take it out on you???

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.You must have a real ****hole as a boss at the moment I've had a few bosses and most were good a few were poor but I've only had one of the ones you mentioned and I can only say it was interesting , funny when I look back and had to physically restrain people from going to beat him up ,also funny when I think of the tricks we played on him that he did'nt know about, and it was good because it brought the rest of us closer together , and at least he is the benchmark I can judge everyone else against , when things get bad now I think back and it's never as bad as it was when he was in charge .
I feel for you, but no, it's not possible. Have you confronted them face-to-face yet? Those people are normally spineless - particularly if you point out all their real faults that they are trying to hide by being b*stards. If you can, say something, but be professional and constructive about it. Don't let the sods drag you down! You'll only die young, but they'll keep on living - teaching their kids to torture your kids in their future jobs. Like the Manics said; "If you tolerate this..."
Alternatively, if discussing it doesn't work, and like j2buttonsw said - if the current deal doesn't suit you, and you have the means and opportunity, work for yourself!!! You only live once, and it's not to regret!

Unfortunately I know how you feel, and the replies you have had are all relevant because this is a very widespread problem - smudge's suggestion is, in my opinion, very helpful. Your position will be all the more difficult if you cannot afford to consider leaving your job. The worst case I personally experienced was when the boss uttered abuse on the first day I arrived as a total stranger (posted by head office, not recruited by him) and everyone rushed around to reassure me this was not personal, he behaverd like this to everyone at all times - "welcome to the nuthouse" they said. I picked the earliest moment to leave and did so also asking head office to peruse my personal file to which I had had posted (i.e. I had lodged papers there) a precise record of the abuse. For this I had the advantage of my personal file being confidential and unbeknown to my boss. If the company does not take notice then it is certainly not one to remain with. The man in question was replaced some months after I left (I do not flatter myself into thinking it was on my account but I hope my case drew at least some additional attention to the situation). In two other cases I received very generous support from outside my own organisation (client interests who in effect ordered my tormenters to treat me better, or else - singularly flattering). Others will almost certainly be aware of what is going on and will (unless they are too intimidated) back you up and you should not meekly put up with bad treatment because it is in effect against the law. But realistically you will need to work within your personal constraints. There are organisations and self help groups in this country who can advise, perhaps someone can make suggestions. In my experience it is normally people with low self esteem who are in middle management (and shouldn't be)that have the worst attitudes. If you try to realise that they are probably sad, unfulfilled people, you may be able to feel sorry for them, or maybe just have a laugh at their expense and make yourself feel better. Most senior managers are normally very nice people as they know they are at the top and are probably quite secure in themselves. So, briefly, I pity the sad bastards - if they want to waste their lives being mean and ultimately make themselves feel worse then that's their problem.
