Cheap insurance for new young drivers
15 Answers
My son is taking his driving test on 19th April. He turns 18 on 15th March.I have found out about getting him insured on my car through my company and they have quoted me almost an extra £1500 per year!!!I am fully comp and only have a Suzuki Jimny 1.3 so it's not like it's a big sports car.I have been told that some insurance companies do "part time"insurance.ie I use my car during the day for work but he can then use it in the evenings at a reduced rate??This sounds a bit bizarre to me but if it is right can anyone tell me what company I could get this through or if any of you lovely Abers know of any companies I could get cheaper insurance for him from.

Because I'm bored at the moment I will do a quote for me on my mums insurance - using the information I have above, I will see how cheap I can get it. I don't use the car comparison websites either, I've had a bad experience with them!
Hi, I think that the part time insurance you are talking about is done the other way around. Some companies do offer cheaper insurance if the car is used in the day but only until early evenings. My son's used Quinn Direct when they had just passed their tests and found it to be fairly reasonable. Worth a try.
