Our kitten is about 15 weeks old and today and last night he seems to have a cold, sneezing a lot and a little bit of a runny nose. He has been asleep most of the day when usually he is awake most of the morning at least. He has had all his injections. Is this something that will go away or could it be something more serious? I would be very grateful for any advice or ideas. Thanks

magentared: I am no expert on kittens, but I can give you an account of what I went through with my puppy...I believe your little kitty is probably fine...if she is that young, she will go through some sneezing, watery eyes, and runny nose for a while until she gets older..., just as my little one (my welsh corgi pup) did when I first got her at 5 weeks old...

Just remember to keep your baby warm with blankets and a snuggly place to lay/sleep and be sure she/he is eating a bit and drinking plenty of water...if they're doing that, they should be just fine.

Also, keep in mind (as you probably already know) that animals like dogs and cats need to have a wet, sometimes runny, nose! This is a sign of health- not a sign of sickness...good luck!

With a small kitten I would consult a vet as soon as possible.  If he is sleeping more then it is not a good sign.  Is he eating and drinking?  I expect his injections included cat flu, but whatever it is he needs to see a vet.

I am sure you will do what is best for him.

Best wishes.

Hi magentared, please take him to the vet as soon as possible, it sounds like cat flu to me, which can kill them. Are his eyes OK or are they runny too?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that it's not cat flu because it really is horrible, they are poorly for some time even when they're strong cats. Please let us know what the vet says.

Take him to the vet -it might be nothing but its better to be sure

Hi magentared, I got my Merlin at 8 weeks, at 10 weeks he had his first lot of injections, before his final injections he started to sneeze quite alot and his eyes were very runny to the stage where I had to bathe them because they were closed up, I took him to the vets and they told me he had respiratory tract infection and was given antibiotic and special eye cream, he was better within a week.  If I were you I would have your kitten checked out by your vet, kittens are so vulnerable to infections and diseases and anything out of the ordinary shouldn't be ignored.

Let us know how you get on, and I hope your little one will be soon on the mend.  Good luck.  :-)

Please please see a vet, if this is cat flu it can be extremely serious - it's not just like you or I having a cold.  Better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks you all for the advice and your concern. I wasn't able to take Claude (thats his name) to the vets yesterday, but when I got up today he was so much better. He had lots of energy and was very active, he was eating normally and sneezing less. He has been a little sniffly and a little bit of a runny nose when sneezing but his eyes and nose most of the time are clear. Overall I would say he is very much back to his old self.

Considering this, do you think I should still take him to the vets? Could it be an allergic reation to something? Sorry that this question has turned into another one. Thank you again for the advice you have all given and any you may give to help me further.
Hi magentared, yes I would still take him to the vet.At least you would know for sure that everything was ok,and you don't want to take any chances with kittens and cat flu, which although serious,is treatable.Give wee claude a kiss from me!x
Hi magentared, I would still take Claude to the vets, its better to be safe than sorry and you will have peace of mind,  give him a BIG hug and a kiss from me too. :-)
I agree that it would be best to take little Claude to the vets.  What a lovely name!
