Hello,

I'm due to be collecting a motorbike that I have purchaced on ebay. I will be collecting it on a sunday.

I have my cbt certificate, driving licence, full mot, I will have insurance for the bike arranged and my part of the V5 after the exchance has taken place.

I cannot arrange tax online as I do not have the V5 in my name or address at this time. And the previous owner cannot do this either as his insurance has ran out. And there will be no post office open on sunday.

Can I ride the bike home? or do i have to wait for the updated V5 and then get road tax?

Or if i carry all these bits of paper around with me is my bike safe from the crushers?

Thanks for your help

Personally, if I was just riding it home from where I'd purchased it, I'd have not asked, but just done it.

Don't they give you any leeway anyway re renewing tax ? I don't know but I think it'd be a bit tight for them not to.

You say you will be collecting on a Sunday, you do not state which one.

If the bike has no tax today then it must have expired on 31st January or earlier, therefore you cannot ride it home.

If tax expires on 28th Feb then you are ok to ride. The V5 states registered keeper who does not have to be the owner. So long as you have all the paperwork confirming purchase etc you 'should' be ok.

You should then get tax sorted as soon as possible and I would recommend you keep it off road in the mean time.

Thanks for all the help. I have since arranged with the owner to deliver it for me to avoid any problems. I'll be sure to slap the tax on it first thing monday before taking it for a ride.
