so the boss of hsbc said he will give 4 million pounds of his bonus to charities over the next 3 years, what the hell has he done to desereve getting over 4 million pounds bonus?

Had he sucessfully steered his bank through conditions that lost the others fortunes that sort of bonus would be well deserved - but it doesn't really sound as if that's the case does it?

The company made 4.7 billion pounds profit this year. The bonus pool is 35 million pounds. The board obviously thought he'd done a good enough job to earn it.
