A very dim lightbulb in the back of my head suggests that mushroom25 and Polly1958 may be spot on! I vaguely remember GIlbert O'Sullivan (not to be confused with Gilbert AND Sullivan) from the very early 70s who used to accompany himself at the piano wearing overalls and braces with a collarless and tieless shirt and a flat cap.
