Gmail and images

My gmail a/c refuses to show images - even tho' I hit 'always display images from this sender, On the Google Help all I can see is a promise that 'we're working on this one' so what's taking the time? Why so hard to provide what all others provide as a matter of course? Am I missing something?

I had this problem and found a way to fix it.

In the top right select Settings. Then select the General tab.

Part way down is an oprtion "Browser Connection" and you probably have "Always use https" selected.

Change this to "Dont always use https".

Go to the bottom and save your changes.

This fixed it for me.

Could it be related to IE8.
