Answers are food and drink. They evoke lengthy memories. I thought thyme(in the clue) was the answer but it was pointed that the clue suggests a plural answer. What about "jellied eels"???or is that too far-fetched? I also thought of "snaps" as in photographs but ruled that out. Someone please come up with the answer-it's driving me crackers!
It's the "lengthy" part of the clue that made me think of eels and jellied eels were quite popular a while back or am I clutching at straws? It really is a puzzler. Perhaps the person (can't remember who it was) who sussed out the pork pie answer can help? Lengthy memories is an odd phrase- that's why several people suggested thyme.
Quinie I think jellied eels is the best yet. If you google Jellied eels they evoked lengthy memories then you get references to these words such the Kray item. Lengthy queues in the East end for this particular dish ! my melts idea comes from tuna melts, cheese melts etc in case you are wondering !
Go for it,inglepingle. What is the closing date for the quiz? i'd like to know the answer to that one and the one "From Africa to Rome".Haven't heard from birdie73 again.Good luck.

Ingle, thyme is something that can be eaten, so I think could be in a food and drink quiz.. I dont see why you would us the words "lengthy memories" if it was not because of the hidden word, you would just say long memories. Just my feeling, and I am not necessarily right!
they evoked lengTHY MEmories....the answer is thyme. In public transport reversing I...if you take the transport to be TRAM, reverse it....MART, add 'in' and 'I' and you get MARTINI.
