I recently sold an old broken gold chain I had. When you Google cash for gold, there are two or three sites that give you on the spot values. One is a well known name beginning with "R".They were offering £140.00 but another one were offering £221.00. I rang the 2nd one to see why they were offering so much more and I was told they don't use "gold packs", advertise on TV or have any shops.
I sent my gold nervously, and got the money by 11.00am the next day.
So just a "heads up" if you're thinking about it, find the one with the on-line calculator and use Them.

or try a local independant jeweller if theres one nearby. Never just take one valuation, as you say.
