whats the opinion on laser eye surgery?

The people that I know have had it done have loved it. My sister likes the idea but I think she's a bit scared and happy to continue with contacts. I probably wouldn't do it if it was me but I'm a bit squemish when it comes to do with things to do with eyes.

My son is 20 and has worn contact lenses since he was 15. Our optician advised against laser surgery until at least late 20's. The only place I would trust to do this procedure would be Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.

I certainly would not entertain any of these offers of £395 per eye and especially not Boots or the like. I ordered prescription designer sunglasses from Boots last summer and when I went to collect them, the lenses were two different shades of blue - one lense was dark blue and the other light blue. I spotted it straight away but it took 3 optician assistants to agree with me. Then they said 'so you are not happy with them' doh ! no I would prefer two lenses the same shade. Utter morons.

So, if Boots could not get the colour of lenses correct, what chance would you have with laser eye surgery. (;o(

Most people who hav laser eye refractive surgery get positive results. Unfortunately there are also many that don't. I would advise consultations with several surgeries to see if they are all in agreement to which type of surgery would suit you best. I would then go to the place where they have a resident surgeon who will do your aftercare visits as well.The average cost of refractive surgery in the uk is £1500 per eye and I have not yet met anyone who has had the £395 job yet.

Aftercare is actually the company taking responsibility for the procedure they have done and monitoring the health of your eyes to ensure there are no complications. You want these follow ups to be over the next year if possible.

Dry eye is a common minor irritation that followed most of the earlier techniques but is less of an issue now.

Unfortunately there are sometimes issues that are worse than mild dry eye complaints.

I have been thinking for sometime now about having a Lasik eye surgery instead of wearing glasses. I do not know a lot about this procedure but want to know from people who did this. I am scared that It will have lot of side effects atleast not now may be after few years and I am thinking I have to take medicines. Also please tell me what could be the price ranges to have this procedure. My insurance wont cover this anyway and I am ready to pay it from my pocket.

thanx everyone, sorry i didnt back to this page sooner, but had been busy. after reading all your comments, i´d say my g.friend will never have it done!! and if i was in her shoes, i would´nt either. its still a new procedure, and as most `people have said, what about long term side effects??
