Quiz; Fruits or Vegetables

Clue is: This was also a boy's mag. in the mid 20th. century 7. 3.
I can't find any boy's magazines that fit as vegetables or fruit so it must be cryptic.
The middle of century is nut, but I am totally baffled as to what the seven letters are.
Any help much appreciated.
