I live near Hartlepool, which has a Marina , reasonable shops , plenty of night life and loads of places for rent and buy.OR you could go for one of the villages like Blackhall colliery, where I live safe , not that exciting but property cheap and a safe area. on teeside you have good access to good countryside ,the coastal regions and air;port and good road links A19, and A1.Imoved here 15 years ago , lived in Whitley Bay for 26 years , and worked in Northumberland for 12 years. These best move I have ever made.people are down to earth, very friendly and willing to help.I have learned after a lifetime of house moves due to work , that where ever you go , it is down to you to fit in.

If you are going to Teesside Uni which I guess you are then you need somewhere within reasonable commuting distance. The Uni is not far from the railway station in Middlesbrough so anywhere along the rail line between Saltburn/Yarm would be convenient. Places close into the centre of Mbro can be a bit rough, as are the old housing estates that used to serve the steel works and ICI eg South Bank, Grangetown, Dormanstown, although prices here can be very cheap. If you head into the commuter belt towards Guisborough, Stokesley, Yarm etc prices go up considerably but you are on the edge of the city and looking at really nice country areas. Ive lived in Guisborough and surrounds for over 15 years. On the edge of the N York Moors and easy access to the coast and main routes. No rail and not cheap but a nice market town. If you like the seaside then Saltburn is ok. Good rail link decent housing, nice beach and good cliff walking. General rule of thumb, farther out from the centre nicer the area.
