Legal help beyond CAN

Hi, I think I know the answer but hope I am wrong. I am a bankrupt and find myself having to defend a case brought against me in a Crown Court. I have no funds to hire a lawyer and no not qualify for legal aid as I work full time (on the NMW) and my wife is a nurse. the CAB have also told me they cannot help.

Is there any other place I can go for free advice? This is my first time in this situation and do not know where to start.

Do you have a house insurance policy or bank account that may include legal advice? Its a long shot I know.. but you never know!
Alternatively there are some very good people on here that can advise to a degree...

I read your question with interest istherehelp. My husband and I have found ourselves in court and although not bankrupts, we were not able to afford the mega bucks that are charged for legal help. We went to court by ourselves and won both times.
If you would like, my questions pertaining to these cases can be found in "Law, Civil" and the dates are 10th Feb 2010 and 12th & 13th Feb 2009, under chrissa1.

We found that the judge bent over backwards to help us and although it took a lot of groundwork, it was worth it. Obviously, I don't know the circumstances of your case but I would say, all is not lost and give it a go. If I can be of any further help, feel free to let me know. Good Luck. Chrissa1

If it's a civil matter it will be county court rather than crown.

Can you give me some idea of what it is about?

Generally, the only thing I can suggest if the Pro Bono Unit of the Bar Council (where student barristers will give their time for nothing). Failing that, it may be possible to do a no win no fee arrangement, depending on how good your case is.

Is this something the Trustee in Bankruptcy would take over?
