and have MW appointment thursday where i can have a membrane sweep if i wish. has anyone had this done and did it work for you? really not sure if i want to have it yet. worried as it can cause bleeding afterwards and can see myself panicing if this happens! this may sound a silly thing to ask and is the only way i can think of wording it, but does MW just stick her finger in to have a sweep or does she need to use some sort of medical instrument to open me down there a little 1st (hope that makes sense!)
if baby is not here by sun 14ht (mothers day!!!) im to go into hospital to be induced - so if i havent had a membrane sweep will they want to try that 1st or just go straight ahead with the Prostin get/tablet?
thankyou x

I was 10 days over with my youngest, and I have to say that by that time i couldn't have cared less what they did to speed the process up, just as long as it was effective! I'm glad to say that it was, and the evening of the afternoon I had her, my waters broke.
Not sure about the bleeding bit? This never happened to me, and I've not heard it happening to my friends who also had it done.
Lastly, good luck :-)

thought it may be jsut the fingers - can see my self tensing up and not being able to relax for it!!
alot of pepole have said the sweep doesnt work, only a few people said it has. i've read on the interent that some women experience a little pain/discomfort and bleeding afterwards which is normal but it would still worry me,
thankyou - hopefully he will be out before thursday!

Hi pinkangel,
Firstly, congratulations to you and your partner/husband.....bet you are really excited now.
5 days+ overdue is perfectly normal, so i think you're worrying yourself over nothing.
Myself and mrs bear have 4 children.......3 of which were all late :0)
If you're worried about what you explained, just have a simple check over from MW to see if you and baby are both ok......come home and see what happens in the next few days. If nothing by the 14th, you go and have you're little bundle of joy at the hospital.
Sorry i cant help with the main question...i would ask mrs bear, but she's nipped out.....maybe some other good folk can advise you on this too, if anything, just to relax you and say no big deal.
I wish you all the very best, my lovely and take care x

Try not to worry about the sweep1 It's just a way to get things moving! It's not so uncomfortable, and it usually starts off your labour, you'll be fine............don't worry, your midwife knows what she's doing!.................Good Luck...................let us know about your new little one when he/she arrives!.............
thanks everyone. think im going to have the sweep (unless im lucky and he arrives before thursday!) anything is worth a go to get him here quicker and could stop me spending hours in the hospital sunday to be induced!
and thanks yogi-bear - my partner and i are very excited and egar to meet our little boy :-) x

i had 2 sweeps and prostin with my first and nothing worked until they broke my waters.
I begged for a sweep on my due date with my second as i didnt want to go 17 days ovber again. The consultant did it for me and was very thorough (almost rough) i had 2 days of bloody show and then 1 day of nothing before going into labour.
