Windows Messenger sign in

As I never use windows messenger, how can I prevent the sign in box from popping up every time I boot up? - It's driving me crazy! I don't want to remove the program altogether, just get rid of the wretched box!!
Please can anybody help?

go to control panel and use add or remove programmes.
on the left press on add/remove windows components.
cycle down the list until you get to windows messenger
then remove the tick from the box, click next and exit.
