Where should we go?

I've hired a car and booked a ferry leaving Dover (to calais) on 15 Aug and returning on 28 Aug.  We have �1000 to spend for 2 people (max) and don't know where to go! We were going to go to chamonix but i'm slightly worried about how cold it might get at night as we're camping.  I want some sun and most importantly i want scenery and good food.  Mountains would be great but nothing where the temp drops to low at night! Dont have to stay in one place and would actually quite like to stay in 2 places.  lots of activities - walking, and windsurfing if theres a lake.  Not bothered about being near the sea.

If you go to Chamonix, save some money to go paragliding off the alps.  I did this probably 10 years ago and it's still my best holiday memory.  It was AMAZING soaring above the forests.  :-)  Also check out if they're having another paragliding festival this summer and if it's on when you'd be there. 

The Loire Valley is also beautiful - and if you can face maybe hiring bikes instead of taking the car out each day, there are plenty of caves for a good day's wine tasting! :-) If you do go, take a cardy though - it gets cold in those cellars! :-(
