trt another couple of young uns having babies, and the state paying for it
As a "baby boomer" growing up in the "swinging 60's, contraception was the 1st thing that was thought about, long before any sexual activity took place. I know times were different then and I was brought up "properly", but rampant sexual activity just didn't go on then at the magnitude (if that's the right word) that it seems to now. There was that new invention called The Pill.
Were there benefits for single mothers in those days? I never knew or tried to fnd out, as I had NO intention of getting pregnant. What is wrong with the youth of today??
That's a good point chrissa1,

Anybody know when benefits started for single mums because when I was young all girls seemed to disappear for a few months if they were pregnant and nobody talked about it.
Because today we have a benefit culture where people actually gloat that they are on benefits.
If you question the morals of the mothers & fathers on this programme then surely there are many many more programmes where the same question could be asked - e.g. Famous, Rich and Homeless / Jobless this week - Jeremy Kyle - many many docos

the list is endless
No, we were questioning the morals of the youth of today not the TV programmes.
I've no idea what the beneit system was in the 1960s but i know that child benefit was paid for the first child I think, then in the 70s they changed that, I got maternity benefit when i had my first child in 1981, but I'd been working full time or the previous 9.5 years ! I agree that girls didn't ghet given a house when they had a baby, they had to bring it up at home with parents or get married and live with parents, but I may have totally been oblivious to a whole culture and just be assuming that!!!
