Irish Speeding Fine

I am a UK resident and have received a speeding ticket in Ireland.  The fine comes with 2 points.  I have been asked to send in a copy of my driving licence with payment.  Will the points appear on my licence and will it only be 2 points (standard fine in UK is 3 points I believe).

Is it your own UK registered car in Ireland? Hire car? If it's the former then there is nothing they can do, the latter then you will have 2 points in Ireland and the hire car co will deduct the fine from your credit card. How dis they contact you? More info needed really.

It was in a hire car.  Clearly the hire car firm have now told the Irish Police my name and address and the fine has come directly from the police (therefore the hire firm are out of the equation).  I need to pay the police direct.

Well as far as I know there is no reciprocal agreement with ROI on licenses, indeed they have a different system altogether. You are probably getting the standard letter. Just ignore it what can they do? even if you send your, UK, license there system won't handle it. Next time you go you'll be in another hire car right? I'm suprised the Hire co have'nt taken the fine out of your credit card though

It's Southern Ireland.  We actually don't know who was driving the car (or which car as we had hired two).  However we do know that we were driving on that road at that time, so it is a fair cop (but who for?)
