Strands 259. Would You Look At That
Quizzes & Puzzles1 min ago
HI, does anyone now why my stools have randomly gone a really dark (almost black) green?? I've had it all week, and never seen it like this before!!! And no, I haven't been drinking dye, and I don't think I've eaten anything that resembles the colour!!!
Any answers?

try a symptom or self diagnosis site, but if you're worried go to the docs,be prepared and take a sample..
My guess is you've had a change of diet or have eaten something too rich in vitamins or iron for you.
But Jonathan Swift (author of Gulliver's Travels) had other ideas. He claimed that the colour of one's stools is determined by thoughts in the brain. Interestingly perhaps, he claimed that 'treasonable thoughts' created 'a greenish tinge'. So there you have it. Have you been having thoughts of overthrowing the monarchy or voting against Tony Blair? :-)
you're not taking an iron supplement are you?
If you answer NO to everything that has been suggested I would go to the GP if was you. I don't want to worry you or anything but my dad always told me if your stool is black it could be bleading from your intestines. The reason for the colour black is because by the time it has travelled to your toilet pan the blood's no longer fresh.
I do hope this is not the case though, but do get it checked out.
