cycle carriers

I have just got a zafira and bought roofbars so I could fit the bike carriers. Trouble is its too high for me to lift the bikes on. I've got a towbar fitted with a stabiliser plate and sometimes tow a caravan (sorry!!) I would like to be able to carry bikes and tow the van. I'm not keen on the racks that hang on the back window since someone cut the straps on the last one I had and a lorry ran over it!  Anyone tried the towbar carriers - can you still tow? or any suggestions on other types.

you can buy a cycle carrier that bolts on between tow bar and the ball whick enables you to still be able to tow, unfortunately cant be used with a one piece tow bracket
