killing off grass

Has anyone killed off grass using old carpet by denying it daylight ? If so, how long does it take ?

I managed it with Evergreen ... easy to kill grass with that stuff if you use too much

In the growing season it can take 3 months.

To be sure of killing deep rooted weeds and couch grass give it 1 year.

Used the carpet method when I took over my overgrown allotment....saved me loads of work, & killed all the weeds including brambles. As carlton says, it should be left for a year to make sure everything is killed.
