How to put a catflap on a double glazed door

As above. How is it possible to put a catflap on a double glazed door? Who would you call for to install it? I have no idea where to look on yellow pages!

I believe that you can do that but i have no idea who might do it, apart from someone who might fit double glazing perhaps?

Yes it's possible, you buy a special catflap with the right depth of tunnel. We had ours put in by the company who installed our double glazing - you should be able to find a local DG company who'd do it.

Oh but the company installing the door is part of the maintenance charge I pay annually so im not calling them so I guess I will have to look in the yellow pages for double glazing but still seems bizarre that they would turn up for a cat flap.

It's not something I would want to attempt myself - I think you'll find it's quite a common request these days, you can buy catflaps for double glazing in places like Jollyes Pet Store or Pets at Home.

So how are you going to cut the glass out for the flap surround? If it's a fully DG door, the glass should be toughened. If so, there will be a BS mark you can see at the corner of the glass somewhere. You will not be cutting toughened glass either.
If it won't go in the timber board at the bottom without affecting the strength, you will have to reconstuct the DGP shorter, add another glazing bar, and board the rest around the assy.

Your existing doors will already have toughened glass units installed... which means you cant have a hole cut in it...you need a new unit.
You should call someone who does double glazing repairs...they will measure the unit size, and give the measurements to a glazier who will arrange to have the holes cut in the new glass and this will then need to be toughened.
The glazier then makes up the unit and gives it to the repairer who will then come back and fit it for you.

It's not quite poking a hole in the glass... and sticking a cat plap in it...!

Bizzare ...... not a word that springs to mind when you may be charged £300 for fitting a cat flap .

I had this done last year. You need a double glazing company. They will make a new glazing unit with the flap in it & replace the original glass with that.Mine was put in a french door & cost £180.
