I like to cook my rice by first frying the dry grains in about two tablespoons or extra virgin olive oil. Will this be bad for me in later life, or is a small amount of oil twice a week ok?

Olive oil is good for your heart - although it contains the same calories as other types of oil, and so ultimately you would put the same amount of weight on, the type of fat is different and is beneficial to your health. And in any case, a few tablespoons a week is not exactly overdoing it, calorie-wise, so you're fine.
i agree with ravenhair

olive oil is good for you and certainly a couple of tablespoons a week won't have much effect on your calorie intake - the mediterranians can go through about a bottle a week usually. (and live to be 90 odd)
