David Cameron has always been keen to distance himself fro Mrs Thatcher, and instead talks of the modernised cute and friendly Conservative Party.

However, today he will make a Union bashing speech praising Thatcher and promising to further Union legislation.

One of the key quotes that popped out was this one...
“Margaret Thatcher’s government was defined by taking the side of the people against the powerful, the vested interest - those whose survival depended on keeping things as they were." - Talk about rewriting history.

Anyhow, my very loaded question:

Is this just political opportunism, or is the cute friendly Conservative Party just marketing boll0cks and we are now seeing the true Conservatives and they haven't changed?

While he could well be a Thatcherite (who knows...), Cameron is -not- anything at all like Thatcher. If he were, we wouldn't have to speculate quite so much. Cameron is something worse - he's virtually a clone of Blair.
Unions are loonies, they need bashing, look at those J Arthurs in the BA fiasco. UNITE: "You know that offer you made to us the other week, the one we told you to shove?, well we'd like to accept it now!", BA: "Sorry too late", Unite: "All out brothers"! What a bunch of J Arthurs. I've always hated unions for what they did to this country, thank god for MrsT. BA will crush Unite now, they went into battle led by a pygmy. Unions hd a purpose 10 years ago, that purpose has been served sucessflly, well done, now bl00dy well die you dinosaurs!

Gromit, yes opportunism, like all politics. Take the chance when Labour's paymasters are wrecking peoples holidays, abso bleedin lutely! Take the punch when you can, this ain't syncronsed swimming Arry.
>he's virtually a clone of Blair.

In fact the three main parties are now all very "central" in their views and scared to say any "extreme" in case they lose votes.

So we now have a choice of three main parties, who are all almost exactly the same (at least on the surface).
This situation with BA and the Unions reminds me of British Leyland and the unions in the 1970s.

Here is a picture of striking BL car workers

You feel like asking them where is your job and your company now?

BA are going the same way

(I dont TOTALLY blame the unions, British management is pretty awful as well).
when I said 10 I meant 100 above!
Whichever way the wind blows Cameron follows on in the slipstream. That is why they have not produced any future policies. First get in power by any means. Then expand on your core policies.

Labour were no different. After 2 years of hardship they let loose and we end up in the mess we are now in.

UKIP were a one policy party but now they have changed. They promise to stop all immigration for 5 years so this country can recover. They deserve support as this is the major issue at the moment.

Not really how it happen Geezer

The offer was withdrawn after 1 hour before anyone had chance to be agree or disagree with it.

All disaffected Tories should vote UkiP... and let Labour in again!
Although you say he has always been keen to distance himself from Mrs Thatcher, that doesn't mean he has to disagree with all of the measures she introduced, breaking the destructive hold the unions had over the country being one.

I thought you spoilt your perfectly valid post, by your typical "nasty lefty" sarcastic wording,

/// or is the cute friendly Conservative Party just marketing boll0cks ///

Why the need for the expletive?
No need for the use of expletives, just use CP in future...
...and let us not forget that despite he rabid lefties hatred of MrsT, those in power have a one to one with the great lady as no 1 on the agenda, QED both Brown and Blair.
///All disaffected Tories should vote UkiP... and let Labour in again!///

There are just as many disaffected Labour voters who believe immigration has not been tackled. Maybe with the UKIP policy on immigration they would steal more votes from the BNP also.

UKip are a far bigger threat to the Tories than to Labour

// A private analysis by Labour strategists suggests that in marginal constituencies, even a few hundred extra votes for Ukip could frustrate Tory challengers trying to take the seats. One cabinet minister cited Ukip as among the most important factors in the battle for a hung parliament, telling the Observer it could "cost the Tories 50 to 60 seats". //

It's political opportunism. People are looking at the BA fiasco and thinking, christ I can remember when it was like this all the time, union leaders doing their best to make everyones lives a misery.
The Tories are seeing that and thinking, wow this is great timing - we'll use it to get a few more votes.
We shouldn't have unions. We should defer to our masters and be thankful for their benificence.

As our betters, they should be allowed to dictate whatever terms they like.

It's unfair for us to gang up in a group in an attempt to negotiate on equal terms.
...and let us not forget that despite he rabid lefties hatred of MrsT, those in power have a one to one with the great lady as no 1 on the agenda, QED both Brown and Blair.

Can ANYONE understand this sentence ?
