How do I calculate holiday entitlement if leaving part way through year?

Hi All

Do you know of a standard calculation used by HR deprtments to work out holiday entitlement for someone leaving part way through the year?

My friend is entitled to 25 days per annum and her leave year runs from 1st January 2010; her last working day will be 15th April 2010. How can we work out how many days she is entitled to take/get paid for holiday?

sadly there is no standard. My dh used to get his on key dates in chunks, mine was pro rata'd on a whole months worked basis. You need to know what it says in the terms and conditions of employment

The law says you are entitled to a certain amount of holidays per year - currently 28 days and this can include BH days if you work 5 days a week; it's pro rata'd for part-time workers
Even if the T&C's say you get 20 days holiday you are by law entitled to the above

its not how much you get in a year its how partial years for leavers are calculated that differs.

If we are to presume that 25 days is correct (worked out pro rata to the number of days worked per week) then the rough answer is 7 days as follows -

25 divided by 365 times 105 equals 7.2 days

(105 = 31 days jan, 28 days feb, 31 days mar and 15 days apr)
