If so, please can you translate the sentences below. I have a feeling for what these sentences mean, as I understand all the words, but it would be nice to know their exact meaning. (The book I am using does not provide a translation for every sentence spoken in the dialogue.) Cheers.

3rd sentence : 2 possibilities
- And she taught me french ever since I was a little girl.
- And she taught me french ever since she was a little girl.
We wanted to talk about this with you first.
I didn't want to take any chances.
In the third sentence, i think it should be "le" francais ( as in the language ), rather than "les" francais ( as in the people of France ).

maximo is pretty much spot on. The thing with translating is to try not to do it so literally- if you have a feel of what a sentence means, then just adapt it until it sounds like what you would say in English. So, as you can see, you would never say: And it taught me French as of very small, but something like, She's been teaching me French ever since I was little.
