Is Osborne Conning us over NI and Efficiency Savings?

George Osborne has said that he will scrap Labour's plan rise in NI and pay for it with some £12billion out of nowhere he is calling efficiency savings.

Some questions the Trotskyists at the Torygraph are asking

// 1. Mr Osborne and his team admit they haven’t seen the detail of the Government contracts they intend to rewrite or any of the other details of the programmes they are promising to trim. Is there a more detailed blueprint for savings in existence? If Yes, why isn’t it being published? If No, how much credibility does the £12 billion figure have?

2. What happens if the Conservative savings fall short of £12 billion? It’s hardly unprecedented. If the savings fall short, will the NICS cut still go ahead? Or is it conditional on those savings?

3. Last week, Labour promised £11 billion of efficiency savings of their own. Mr Osborne said that his savings will come “on top of” the Labour savings. His team said the Tories have “banked” the Labour savings in their plans. And given that we don’t know quite what’s involved in Labour’s savings, how can the Conservatives be confident there is no duplication between their plans and Labour’s?

4. The NICS cut is a permanent cut, and will cost at least £4 billion a year, every year. So are the “efficiency savings” being promised also permanent, annual reductions in spending? Mr Osborne and his team say Yes. But the statements refer only to savings “in 2011/12.” Why don’t the efficiency gurus point out that these are permanent savings? //

Well I think he'd point at the savings of about that amount that Alastair Darling said he could find.

Now the thing is that the Tories have been going about shouting about how devestating that national debt is and how important it is to pay as much of it off as possible as quickly as possible

So how come some of that money which could go towards paying off the national debt is best spent in a tax cut?

Hang on - I'm hear ing voices telling me that they'll claim that this cut in National insurance will increase jobs and promote growth.

Anybody old enough to remember "Trickle down" ? that economic theory of the Thatcher years.

It ran along the line that if you gave tax cuts to businesses and the richest they'd reinvest the money in the country and not blow it on BMWs and foreign holidays.

Funny we never hear anybody talking about "trickledown" any more - I can't imagine why!

Jake has hit the head on all thats wrong with the conservative party. Trickle down from those in superior positions down to the weakest in society. Their ideas are hierarchical and ensure that those in authority determine the fate of those below them.
Head of the structure is the Royalty followed by the Dukes and duchesses. In fact the structure is no different from the armed forces where everyone knows their place.

Cameron and Osborne may not wear uniforms but they have been educated at our monied establishment Eton. They have been bred to believe they are the ruling classes and given the confidence to match.

Once we had the crutch to lean on the US but they no longer see us as their best ally so we have to turn to Europe. But Cameron et al want nothing to do with Europe.

Vote conservative and we will be canoeing up the river without a paddle.

Yes he is, it's political double speak for I haven't a clue where the money's coming from.
Trickle down theory is nothing new, I think Herebert Hoover espoused it too, another roaring success.
