No once you have had glandular fever, you cannot get it twice.

If you've had some ongoing symptoms go to your GP & I'm sure that he/she will send you for a blood test to see what's going on.  Try not to worry - easy for me to say I know!

I had glandular fever when I was a teenager. I find that whenever I have gotten ill since then I get more run down than before I had it. For instance whenever I pick up whatever cold/virus is going round my neck glands instantly swell up (much to everyone's amusement!). My doctor said this is a normal after-effect.
PS: I agree with Robinia about the blood tests. I have an underactive thyroid and some of the symptoms are similar to glandular fever. A consultant told me it's possible my body went mad during the glandular fever and attacked my thyroid gland.

Thank you for all your answers. I had a blood test yesterday and am awaiting the results.  I always wondered when I got colds I got really low - maybe it is due to the Glandular Fever from years ago - thanks Hermia.

Robinia - I am worried!  You sound as though you would make a good mum!

Thanks but you'd have to ask my sons about that Arsenal!!

I'm glad you've already seen the doc & in the meantime stay away from the medical web sites! (being mum again!)

Glad you went to the Docs. Always best course of action.

For the Record my Glandular Fever did turn out to be Hodgkins, but I beat it and now feel great.

COYS!

Snap Mr Ix - perhaps why I came over all mumsy, don't want Arsenal to worry unnecessarily!

Oh Christ!!!!!!!

I am glad that you are both ok.  How do you face up to something like that?  You are very brave people.  I have heard that Hodgkinsons is one of the more curable diseases.  Am worried now though!  Wheres my Mum Robinia when I need her??!!

Oh noooo this wasn't meant to make you feel worse!  More a positive slant for anyone else reading this who knows they have Hodgkins.

What has made you think it might be Hodgkins? As I said, have you been trawling the medical sites?  They can be as scary as they are helpful & you often make your symptoms fit into all kinds of  diseases. And worry will make every one of them worse!!

As for me it wasn't a case of being brave, more a case of one step at a time with several wobblies thrown!!

I'm sure you'll be fine - I'll keep an eye on this thread!

Thanks for mailing back Mum!  I hoped you would.  I know I am being stupid.  I should be grateful that I have got my health. Thanks for all your advice.  I will post my test results when I get them.  (Just for you!).

I really hope that you are ok, it must have been a terrible ordeal.  Thanks again.

Just a question I had glandular fever a year or so ago, going for blood test, can a routine blood test confirm wheter or not I could haver anything else such as Hodkins as GP doesn't think it is glandular fever?

Gazza I've answered you on your own thread.

Another worrier Arsenal!!

I never meant to add to your worry Arsenal. Just wanted to alay the fears if it did turn out to be Hodgkins.

I really don't want to sound blazee or be disrespectful to anyone else who has had it, but I found it unnervingly easy to go through. The treatment sounded 10000 times worse than it actually was and it truly is very treatable.

As with most things like this, it is harder on the people who care about you than it is on you yourself.

Best wishes!!

Hello.  I should have answered this last week.  My blood test results were fine - so a little bit embarrassed now!  Although I did feel rotten!  Just wanted to say thanks for the advice - especially Robinia.  xx

That's great news Arsenal I'm so pleased for you!!  It must be a huge relief, no need to be embarrassed. I hope you're starting to feel better physically now you're not worrying. Take care.x

I had my annual check up at the cancer clinic last week & I'm ok too! :-)

I am really pleased for you Robinia.  I didn't like to ask how you were - but I am glad you are getting through it.  Good Luck to you and your family in the future - you seem like a really nice person. xx
