Hello
Now... I am on dial-up, so sending email attachments is always a little slow. However. I just tried to send 2 'word' letters as attachments.

One was 11.4kb and the other was 4.9mb! Both were single page letters and the only difference I can see was that the 4.9mb one had a coloured banner and coloured stripe down the side whereas the smaller one was all black print. Does this mean anything and can you explain the problem? I scanned them from my printer and believe they were TIFF files?

First one went thru ok but second failed as too big.

Thank all

Moggie

If you have a cude pdf writer you can make the files pdf and this makes the file smaller. Probably small enough to send over a dial up connection although I don't know for sure. You should be able to find a download link through google if you don't have one.
first thing to try is scan the letter (I asume this is a hardcopy letter that you have ... not a doc?)

as a jpg - tiff it an uncompressed bitmap - and even small ones tend to be big.

you need the lowest quality that still leaves it readable .... and if possible scan as black and white.

the other option is to type the letter out

or - a blast from thepast - fax the document

Thanks everyone - yes I dso have PDF, but how do I make a file 'different' to what I have saved it as?

Also - why was one so much larger when the letter looked the same on the page?

Thanks again

"Also - why was one so much larger when the letter looked the same on the page? "

"One had a coloured banner and coloured stripe down the side whereas the smaller one was all black print."

These assertions cannot both be true.

There were 2 letter I sent as attachments. The first was a letter in black print and was 11.4kb.
The other was in black print but had a blue banner heading and a blue stripe down the side. This shows as 4.1 Mb

Thanks

Moggie
If scanned give them a jpg file. Treat as a photo & send.

Thanks Tambourine

Yes - in my HP Printer Centre I have the choice of Scan Photos or Scan Text Docs. I chose text as it was a letter.

I have since gone back in and tryed it with Scan Photo and this does indeed give me a jpeg file.

Thanks
