How do I sort out this mess?

OK it might not be as harsh as the title suggests but im in a bit of a pickle and its something so stupid yet I dont know how to get out it without looking like an imbecile.
A friend called me a couple of weeks ago but I didnt answer the phone as Im not that much of a phoney person i.e. Im not always in the mood for talking, so I didnt answer her. She rang me again and I didnt answer it again.
Now, she has called me twice lately and I did not answer the phone as I hadnt thought of an excuse as to why I was not talking to her.
She obviously knows that I am ignoring her as she can hear my phone ringing.
I thought about getting another sim card and putting it on another phone and telling her I had changed my number and thats why I wasnt answering her calls but that would be such a bad lie as she would know my phone is off.
I want to speak to her, I want to call her! I just dont know what excuse to give to her as to why I have been ignoring her calls and not returning them lately. Im just bad with phones.

So you mean if I have my sim card inside my phone and the phone is switched off cos I am no longer using that sim, wouldnt the caller hear a message saying that the mobile phone they are calling is switched off?
If I wasnt using my sim anymore why would I keep it on?
I think I will facebook her a message and say more or less that ive been busy and apologise for not answering the phone and offer to call her tomorrow.

Sounds to me as though you might have a reason for not answering her that you 're not sharing.
Have you answered anyone else ? Is it just her that you're cold-shouldering, or is it everyone ?
As I said, if you're an adult and you don't want to answer your phone, you don't answer it.(Unless it's your Mum checking that you're OK :-))

I can understand that you are feeling that each time you don't answer the phone to her, you are digging a bigger hole for yourself to get out of! What I don't understand is you said that "your friend could hear your phone ringing". If she was that near to you that she can hear it, and she wanted to speak to you, why didn't she just come over and speak to in person? If your friend knows you well anyway, she will know you are not a phone-person, you are not the only one who doesn't like talking on the phone - people should make allowances. Just be straight with her - you weren't feeling like talking, and you don't want to talk about that now, but you are happy to speak to her (and anyone else ) now.
I get like that too, I can email, text, but I just don't feel like talking. Mine goes back to when I was suffering from depression and just couldn't face a phone conversation. Sometimes I'd ring my buds back when I was in the right frame of mind and they wouldn't answer, because I hadn't answered them, then when they DID call I wouldn't answer, and so on it goes...I'm not suggesting you suffer from depression, but I do know where you're coming from. I just started telling my mates 'Look, I was busy/tired/stressed and couldn't speak to anyone, but I called you back, woman! What more do you want?! And making a joke out of it. It works...apart from the ones who think if they call a million times I'll answer! :)
