Problems with Internet collection.

Hello all. Would appreciate some help. A couple of weeks ago my router started smelling like it was burning so I turned it off. Ever since, whenever I attempt to connect my ASDL cable to a router, I don't get a dial tone on my phone line. I have tried 2 different ASDL cables, 3 filters, 3 routers and 2 ethernet cables (just in case). It doesn't matter if the router is turned on or not. My broadband provider, no names mentioned, are next to useless in sorting this out.

Anyone out there have any ideas?

Sounds like something important has burnt out. My suggestion is a new router.
