A few questions

I have found files in organise ending in .abi. .ax .bag
How can I open these files, or what with?

Also what takes up a lot of memory on the c drive that I could get rid of? I am trying to free up 3.5 gb and I have ridded of everything I don't need, what could be hidden and where can I find it?

Finally, I have a program error message called Winmgmt.exe which annoyingly pops up every 60 secs or so, how can I stop this?

http://filext.com/ will tell you what those file extensions mean.

The only one i recognise is .ax which is a filter used in playing DVDs - so you may have installed PowerDVD or something similar.

As for the pop-up thingy, sounds like you might have some spyware.  A good spyware killer such as AdAware should detect and remove it.  You can download a free version from their website: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

for your first query:

The abi file is assosiated with two programs: 1) ABI Coder, which is an encryption application, and 2) AOL 6 Organiser. You must have or had at one stage either of these installed on your system.

The ax file is assosiated with two programs: 1) ATI, so you may have their graphics card and software installed on your system, and 2) DirectShow Filter.

The bag files are assosiated with many applications and games. Too many to list all, but the main ones are AOL Organiser, AOL Messenger, PMMail and OS/2 Netfinity Manager.

For your 2nd query:

3.5Gig is a lot of space to free up just by deleting data files. You may need to uninstall all application via Add/Remove Programs that you do not use. Otherwise, have you gone through the obvious of clearing both the Temp and Temporary Internet Files folders? Another way of clearing space is by running the Windows 2000 / XP Clean-up program. You can do so by: Open My Computer and Right click on you System drive (usually C:\). Select Properties and then from the box that appears, select the General tab. You will see a button Disk Cleanup. Run this. It may take some time so be prepared.

And finally your winmgmt.exe issue. This file is a key file for one of the operating systems services. However there are viruses and spyware that have exposed this service. You may have become infected. Update your anti-virus software and run a full sweep. Also install a spyware remover such as AdAware (www.lavasoftuse.com) and run a full scan. In both instances, remove/delete what ever is found.
