Perth is the most isolated city in the world. (The distance to the next main centre of population, excluding Freemantle which is effectively a suburb of Perth, is greater than from London to North Africa). Consequently it's got a distinct culture all of its own. (It's also got more millionaires than you'll find anywhere else in Oz or, indeed, in most other parts of the world). It's a beautiful, spacious, friendly city where the 'sterotypical' Oz still exists. (You'll meet people who spend their spare time gold prospecting, possibly with corks hanging from their hats. There are kangaroos bounding across the roads, with beautiful birds and flowers everywhere). There are great beaches for surfing and sunbathing, plus it's a superb base for touring (including visiting The Pinnacles in the Red Desert):

(Totally stunning and best viewed with a group of slightly tipsy octogenarian girl guides who've made you join in singing 'Waltzing Matilda' at least 50 times on the drive out there - I write from experience!!!)
Wherever else you go in Oz, don't miss Perth!
