sorry I answered your other thread before seeing that you have posted about symptoms here. I agree with the others - get to yout GP or better still, if you have a walk-in centre nearby, go there if you can't get a quick GP appointment. Most GPs keep a couple of appointments set aside for urgent cases each da, see if you can get one of those.

is there no A&E anywhere near you? I know you said she won't go to a hospital, but if she won't go to a GP either you aren't going to be any further forward. She'll have to be looked at by a person; talking about it online is never going to be enough. It could all be harmless, but it might not be, so one way or another you're going to have to get her to someone who'll examine her.

yeah been begging her to come to a & e tonight she wont have it as i have just brought my mum out of hospital after 3 grueling weeks and thinks i need to relax !! as if now shes told me that ! im dragging her to the clinic first thing thanks everyone xx

A&E = ACCIDENT & EMERGENCY no wonder it's bogged down with unurgent cases if posters recommend going to hospital with cases that can easily be dealt with at doctors or drop in centres.

I am also confused about not talking to someone on-line who may not be a doctor, but advices them to contact NHS Direct......who certainly won't be doctors.

NHS Direct cost £139,000 to set up, to take the pressure off GP surgeries and A and E depts..
Every call costs £25.
60% of calls referred to GP&A&E.
Service spent £225,000 translating materials into Loatian and Cherokee, which are hardly spoken.

No other country has one, it was set up as a knee jerk reaction to a crumbling out of hours GP service and no Government will disband it despite it being a waste of time and money.......in my opinion.

Sqad: because with NHS Direct you know who you're talking to. Online you don't. (This is a general problem with the internet, not particularly a medical one; how do you know who to believe when it's just a collection of pixels?)

I for one never advocated a visit to A&E, and I tend to agree about NHS Direct, most times they will direct you to A&E or to call ambulance, it seeems to me they are afraid to err so overreact to cover themselves.
