My 15 year old Miniature Yorkie has recently been losing her balance, her left eye has clouded over in the last few days and her appetite is patchy at best. Anyone got any ideas what may be wrong with her? My other half is reluctant to go to the vet as she is worried that our little one may not come home.i would appreciate any input.

It may be that it is near time to say good bye, but you don't have to take the euthanasia option if she isn't in any pain or distress. Better to know what to do for the best, it might be something manageable for a little while longer, Sadly losing pets is the price we pay for the joy of having them.

Why are people so reluctant to visit their vets with older dogs? Surely if having them put to sleep is best for the dog then you should not delay, but in many cases the vet is able to alleviate suffering and the dog will come home again even if only for a short while. It is cruel to withhold treatment and I get very annoyed when people make this comment. After fifteen years of giving you loyalty and love you should be thinking of the poor dor and not your other half. And if its it 'time' then better a day too soon than a minute too late. Having said that vets are not in the business of killing dogs for the sake of it, keeping them alive if they are able is what they are trained to do, and of course, how they make their living. As Milvus said, call your vet now!

visit your vet asap you are just putting your own needs before that of your dog i dont mean to sound cruel but your dog is an old lady now and with age comes these ailments are pets start off younger than us but end up being older than us !!!!!
i apprechiate its hard but its cruel not to get your dog medical treatment

Thanks all for your replies, and I fully intend to take her to the vets.lankeela- I am NOT cruel and I do NOT intend to cause her any suffering, nor am I prepared to let my other half withold any treatment the vet deems necessary. I have been through this before with another miniature yorkie and though it broke my heart to lose her, if it is now time for her to leave us, then so be it. We've had her for 13 1/2 years and have loved every single minute of that time.

im not saying you are intentional being cruel at all its just sometimes we love our pets so much we dont want to say goodbye no matter what
and a trip to the vet might mean that it will put your mind at rest the outcome does not have to be bad good luck xx
