Thanks to everyone who told me where the records are kept. Here's the next question though ~ How can I find out my uncle's regimental number? The museum etc can't help without it!

It will be on any documents relating to his service, a pay book, or even his marriage license or the birth certificate of any of his children, if he was still in the regiment that is.
